Janesville Community Bible Church is a new church plant sponsored by the church planting ministry of Harvard Bible Church (IFCA member) of Harvard, IL.

Our passion is the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Christian growth of those who have already trusted in Jesus Christ as their Savior.

In the weeks and months ahead we will strive in God's power to be faithful to Him through solid doctrine, expository teaching and preaching, fervent prayer, Christian fellowship, and ministry to the whole family.

What is repentance?

Repentance basically means to have a change of heart and mind. Let’s consider why all people need to have a change of mind about their relationship with God.

God is perfectly holy, pure, righteous, and free from any moral defect. Because of God’s goodness he cannot tolerate sin in his presence (Habakkuk 1:13).

All mankind is born with sinful nature due to the first sin committed in the Garden of Eden (Romans 5:12). When we commit sin of any kind, why not only fail to live to God’s standards but our sin has offended God personally (Psalm 5:120).

True repentance is a deep sorrow and remorse for having offended God. This godly sorrow will produce confession of sin and a desire to please God. Repentance opens the door to salvation through Jesus Christ. When a person realizes they are in trouble with God they can now be reconciled to God by having faith in what Jesus Christ has done for them. The death of Jesus on the cross paid the sin debt and cancelled God’s anger against all who trust in Him (John 3:16, Romans 3:24-25, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Sometimes people are sorry for what they have done because they fear punishment or loss of blessing but this is not true repentance. True repentance is directed toward God (2 Corinthians 7:10). Faith in Jesus Christ without true repentance is not saving faith, it is mere self-righteous sentimentalism.

Faith in Jesus Christ with true repentance for sin is the faith that grabs hold of the promise of Salvation and never lets go.

Repent and believe in the Gospel! (Mark 1:15)
